A Guide To Better Putting For Beginners.

To improve your overall golf game one of the most important things you can do is to focus on making progress on your putting abilities. While it may appear to be impossible, basically practicing and working to progress a few small things will seriously progress your golfing skills.  As soon as you have determined what you must do, master the skills by practicing them until you have conquered them.  Taking the time to practice your putting is extremely important and by acquiring a respectable putting ability, will in the end translate into a much-improved long shot. Of course you are going to need to practice to progress, but the correct skills that you need to practice have a tendency to differ from one player to the next. As a general rule of thumb, there are three things that you should specifically concentrate on in order to get the best golf game possible.   The first and elementry golf skill is making sure that your swing is right so that you will make contact with the ball precisely in the center of the club head.  The same fundamental  theory applies to all golf shots and to get on top of your putting you should also hit the ball in the middle of the club head. Unless you strike the ball dead on the center you can’t expect the ball to go straight and you will never be able to master your putting.  It doesen’t matter how much you practice, it’s just not possible and will result in a lot of annoyance over what you are doing wrong.

Before moving onto ensuring that you constantly hit the ball in a straight line to the target you should have worked hard to get better at striking the ball from the center of the club head. Think of it like this, if you need to hit the ball two feet away from you in the direction of the lake, you would not want to aim the ball in the direction of the tree along side it. Always when addressing the ball, you have to approach it squarely to the target in order to hit the target, but surprising as it may sound lots of casual golfers don’t do this. Then they are totally astonished because they have not hit the target.  Your putting proficiency could be acutely changed by being off square to the target by just a small percentage and the ball will not go where you need it to go.

A good number of casual golfers do not know when they are just a little off center from the target, therefore it’s very vital you practice this point a lot until it becomes second nature. An increased handicap for most golfers is usually as a result of missed shots so even the smallest amount of difference away from the target can have an effect on your scores. Putting skills don’t have to be rehearsed on a golf course as you can without difficulty practice this ability with a home putting green in the office or at home. Going to a golf driving range is not going to help improve your putting skills so while practicing your putting abilities steer clear of them if you can.

The final putting skill you need to work on to advance your putting is to ensure that you accelerate the club head when coming into contact with the ball. A lot of casual golfers make the mistake of slowing the club head down before they come into contact with the ball. Slowing the putter head down will mean you lose the thrust that’s needed for the ball to reach the target.  Rehearse this skill  and make a conscious attempt not to slow the putter down before contacting the ball will by and large be sufficient to progress your putting and give you some better results.
